6 Jack McDuff: Screamin’
7 Lonnie Smith: The Call Of The Wild

Soul Jazz would not exist without the Hammond B3 organ. Jimmy Smith “liberated” the organ from its religious context (i.e. African-American sacred music) and turned the machine into a dance floor killer. During the late fifties and early sixties, the B3 produced a memorable sound, however “soon in danger of becoming a stale cliché” when “a host of jazz organists started ploughing the same field” (Ted Gioia). In the golden years Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Brother Jack McDuff, Shirley Scott, Groove Holmes, Johnny Hammond Smith, Charles Earland, the very talented Larry Young, Lonnie Smith and Jamaican Jackie Mittoo proved to be masters of their instrument. Here are some of them, grinding like hell.
(Seems like they all listen to names such as Jackie, Jimmy and Lonnie...)

Great stuff. I've got so many of all those musicians' albums but you still managed to dig up a bunch of tracks i've yet to hear. And they're good ones too!
Thanks.
Great blog! Thanks for the grooves!
